1. Houston takes in more refugees than any other American city. 25 of every 1,000 refugees resettled by the UN come to the greater Houston area. That rate is higher than most countries. In total, the city hosts over 70,000 refugees from 78 countries.

2. Houston is the most diverse big city in America. The population is 43.8% Latino, 25.6% White, 23.1% Black, 6% Asian. But it's also highly segregated. Researchers say Houston's racial makeup today is a taste of what America will look like in the future.

3. Houston is LGBTQ friendly. It's the largest American city to have elected an openly gay mayor. Annise Parker served from 2010-2016. Houston is also home to one of the largest Gay Pride parades in the country.

4. Houston is immigrant friendly and the area has the third largest population of undocumented immigrants in the country. Almost 1 in 4 people from the area is an immigrant. The city also filed a lawsuit against a statewide law that could make it easier to deport undocumented immigrants.
