Indian Plans 100 Percent Electric Cars By 2030

Indian Electric Cars

India plans to make every car electric by 2030. India suffers extreme air pollution and has a new plan to tackle it. Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said "Not a single petrol or diesel car should be sold in the country by 2030".

The state will subsidize the electric car industry for 2 to 3 years. The Indian government expects the industry to be driven by demand rather than subsidies in the long term. India is already investing in charging infrastructure for electric cars.

There are 222 charging stations across the country, up from 194 in July 2016. The city of Bengaluru is home to India's first and largest electric only cab service. Air pollution has become a 'national health and economic crisis' in India. Air pollution causes as many as 2.3 million deaths every year. 3% of Indian GDP is lost to air pollution.
