Facial Recognition Van To Catch Criminals

Facial Recognition Van

Police just arrested their first suspect using a Facial Recognition Van. South Wales police used a van with cameras on top of it to scan a massive crowd at a sporting event and were able to identify a man with an outstanding warrant.

The system works by cross referencing scans against a database with over 500,000 images. It is also capable of being paired with an existing cctv network. Police say that if someone knows their face is being recorded they will be less likely to commit crimes.

So this could not only catch criminals but stop crime before it even happens. If big brother's constant eye worries you, no need to fear. South Wales police say they are creating safeguards to make sure the approach is justified and proportionate.
