This is the most expensive rock in the world. The Pink Star just sold for a record $71.2 million. Why? Pink diamonds are rare and this one weighs 59.6 carats - that's about as heavy as a AAA battery and it's flawless.
David Bennett sotheby's worldwide chairman international jewellery division said " It's a sensational stone and it's the largest known vivid pink diamond in the world."
"Fancy vivid" is the highest grade for color intensity in diamonds. The Pink Star was cut from a 132.5 carat rough diamond mined by De Beers in 1999 in Botswana. It took two years to cut and polish into this.
