State Of Emergency In Chile Because Of Wildfires

Chile has declared an emergency because of wildfires. More than a dozen wildfires have scorched about 123,500 acres. The fire has encroached towns, factories and vineyards.

At least 18 fires have been fueled by strong winds and a heat wave. In all, there are about 50 fires, many are still not under control. One of the largest has consumed around 60,000 acres in and around Pumanque.

The smoke from the flames covered Santiago in dense smog. Chile CONAF forestry service said that the fires were caused by humans.
