12 Dead In Pak Hotel Fire

Many killed in Pakistan luxury hotel blaze when fire broke out in a ground floor kitchen of the Regent Plaza Hotel and trapped guests in the upper floors. Some used a chain of bed sheets to climb down from windows.

Officials say the cause of the fire wasn't clear. may Pakistani buildings have poor health and safety standards while firefighters often lack adequate equipment.

Pakistani volunteers help a foreigner exit from a hotel in Karachi, Pakistan, on Monday. At least 12 people, including four women, suffocated to death and over 110 others were injured when a fire ripped through a four-star hotel.

The building reportedly had no fire exits or alarms. Mayor of Karachi Waseem Akhtar said rescue work was hampered due to absence of an emergency exit.
