Tamil Nadu Government To Construct 50K New houses

Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa also announced construction of 50,000 new houses through Slum Clearance Board at the cost of 21,800 crore. The government will offer a subsidy of R945 crore to beneficiaries to construct 45,000 houses. She also announced construction of 908 tenements for rental to state government employees and 1,266 for sale to public at 401 crore. Under the self-financing scheme, 873 tenements will be built in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli. Though there was no mention about whether the facilities will be provided free of cost, informed official sources said the new facilities are likely to be rented out at nominal rate and bookings can be made online.
