China is planning an unmanned mission to mars. The surface of mars is one of the hardest places to visit but China has a plan. The vehicle will consist of three parts an orbiter, landing capsule, and a rover. The landing capsule will deploy a parachute to slow its approach and use thrusters to apply a braking effect. When it gets close enough to the surface, landing legs will deploy. The US used a similar maneuver when it landed curiosity on mars in 2012. The mission's goal is to study mars surface and atmosphere. China previously attempted a mission to mars in 2011. The craft failed to leave earth's orbit and was destroyed over the pacific ocean. The country hopes to launch this mission around 2020.
