Nearly 700 girls in southern India simultaneously chant Vedic hymns for 2 hours in a bid to set a world record in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Vedic hymns are believed to boost mental energy and are important aspects of Hindu spirituality.
The students are of different religious backgrounds and the exercise also aims to send out a message of religious harmony. A muslim student Mariam Fatima said that "I am a Muslim, but many friends in my school said that chanting Vedic hymns increases a person's memory, so i decided to do it."The Vedas are a collection of hymns and religious texts dating back to 1,000 BC.
