RFID Tags For School Students To Ensure Their Safety

RFID Tags For School Students

IIT Kharagpur students develop low cost electronic tracking system to ensure the safety of school children. The system will include the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. RFID uses radio waves to read and capture information. Student id cards will be tagged with RFID and school buses will be installed with an RFID reader.

On entering the bus, the reader will pick up the child's presence. Parents will be informed that their child is on board via sms. Parents will receive a similar message when their child deboarded the bus. GPS devices will also be installed in the buses and these will help parents track their child's movement in real time. The police will also be informed if the bus deviates from the pre fixed route. The system will be launched on a pilot basis in South Point School, Kolkata. Securing the safety of India's children, one smart invention at a time.
