Mount Etna Reawakens In Catania

Mount Etna

Torrents of red lava are shot into the night sky as the 10,926ft (3,330m) mountain experiences explosive eruptions. Bubbling lava still fills one of the craters the next morning. It is erupting from the central crater. Hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to Sicily each year to be taken up to the craters of Europe's highest volcano. Mount Etna is believed to have the longest record of eruptions in the world. Its first recorded observation goes back to 425 B.C.
