Diabetes On The Rise

6.91 crore people in India were diagnosed with diabetes in 2015. India is among the top three countries in the world with high diabetic population, China and US being the other two. China has the largest number of cases of diabetes (10.96 crore) followed by India (6.91 crore) and the US (2.93 crore). Diabetics patients in the age group 20-70 were 6.68 crore in 2014 and 6.91 crore in 2015, as per the data provided by International Diabetes Federation.

Indian council of medical research (ICMR) has undertaken a large scale epidemiological study on task force projects on diabetes, Union Health Minister J.P Nadda informed RS. Centre is implementing National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCD-CS) for interventions up to district level under the National Health Mission
