25 Dead As 2 Trains Derail

Rescue work in progress at the site where Kamayani Express and Janata express trains derailed while crossing a bridge at Harda, in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Twenty five people were killed and 50 injured when the two trains passing each other, derailed while crossing the railway bridge struck by flash floods in the night. Seventeen bodies and one engine tumbled into the rain swollen river. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said a flash flood caused the Machak river to overflow and wash out a section of the rail tracks. Mr Prabhu announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased. Services of over 50 trains were affected.
