Mother Teresa left home at the age of 18 to become a nun and she never saw her family again. She was known as 'Blessed Teresa of Calcutta' for her services to the people. When caring for the poor and sick in slums, she had to sometimes beg for food since she had no income.

Mother Teresa Award

She received more than 120 honours and awards including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. Mother Teresa is believed to have performed at least 2 miracles during and after her life in 1997 and 2008. She founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. Which is a ministry dedicated to the destitute.

She was awarded with the Bharat Ratna Award in 1980. "Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the action that we do." - Mother Teresa.
