Mini Cooper MKII Rally

Mini Cooper MKII Rally

The original Mini Cooper is a British icon of the 1960s. Its space saving front-wheel-drive layout influenced a generation of car makers. While many like to think of the Mini Cooper as the cars that starred in movies such as the original Italian Job and Mr Bean, for others, however, it was the sight of rally-prepped Mini Cooper S' zipping through the narrow stages of the Monte Carlo that truly cemented its place among one of the greatest cars ever built.

Mini Cooper MKII Rally

The MKII Mini Cooper won the Monte Carlo Rally four times from 1964 through to 1967 However, in 1966 the winner was disqualified after the finish, along with six other British entrants, under a questionable ruling that the cars had used an illegal combination of headlamps and spotlights. This ruling, however, worked in the Mini's favour as it received more press attention than it did the earlier year when it won the rally.
