Fire Rips Through Nigerian Slum

Dozens of homes have been destroyed after a large fire swept through Makoko slum late on Sunday. There's been no reports of casualties and residents say the blaze was caused by a power surge. Fires are common in Nigeria where kerosene and diesel are widely used.

Makoko slum is believed to be home to 10,000+ people. many of them are migrants from other West African countries who make a living mostly as fishermen, harvesters and timber traders.
