Google AI Computers Invented Its Own Secret Language

Google AI computers have created their own secret language. The Neural Machine Translation system went live in September. it aimed to use deep learning to produce more natural translations between languages. That worked out - so researchers wanted to try something else.

The machine had been translating Japanese and Korean to English. But could it translate Japanese to Korean and vice versa without using English as a bridge? They taught the system the three languages separately English, Korean and Japanese. And the machine worked out how to translate the Asian languages without using English. it's called Zero Shot translation.

So has the computer developed its own internal language? Google's language and AI experts think so. This "interlingua" seems to see similarities between words. It could be something sophisticated, or it could be something simple. But the fact that a machine created a language of its own. Well it's a big deal.
