Kunkuri Church Jashpur

A church which resulted in the birth of an entire city! The Kunkuri Church is in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. Officially known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary.

It has been a catalyst in providing education and other basic amenities. Although the foundation was laid in 1962, it was inaugurated in 1979. It took 17 years to build and it can accommodate 8000 people. It is the largest church in India and it is the second largest church in Asia.


Over 5 lakh people of all faiths come here to seek blessings every year. It has 7 roofs supported by a common beam, which is symbolic of entire humanity being under God's purview. The church also has symbols of seven sacraments made of angle iron. Maintained and run by the local tribal community, this beautiful shrine hasn't aged a single day!
