31 Dead In Mexico Fireworks Blast

A flurry of pyrotechnics explode high into the sky in a series of blasts in the San Pablito marketplace outside the capital Tultepec, Mexico. Scores of people have also been injured killing at least 31 people and injuring 72, the authorities said. Some children suffered burns to over 90% of their bodies and were sent to the US for treatment.

The detonations took place in the run-up to Christmas when many Mexicans stock up on fireworks. More than 80% of the stalls were destroyed. This is the 3rd time in just over a decade that explosions have hit the marketplace. Emergency services say the blasts were likely caused by a lack of safety measures.
