February : 1.1 Degree C hotter than average
March : 1.3 degrees hotter than average
April : 1.0 degrees hotter than average.

Mass Coral Bleaching

93% of individuals reefs affected. 22% of the coral on the reef died due to the worst mass bleaching event on record.

The reef was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981 - the same year as the first mass-bleaching of its coral took place. The Great Barrier Reef extends more than 1,400 miles and consists of some 3,000 individual reefs.
