From School To Biodiversity Park

From School To Biodiversity Park

A concept to develop the Government Central High School, Attakulangara, Thiruvananthapuram into a biodiversity park has been submitted to the state government as it has proposed making 1000 schools in the state into biodiversity parks. The concept prepared by an environmentalists' collective called "Tree Walk' is based on the existing diversity of the school.

Surveys conducted at the school have revealed that the trees and foliage on the compound provide habitat to many kinds of birds and butterflies. Ten zones that help highlight the uniqueness of the ecological history of the school have been identified.

The development of each zone will be undertaken with the participation of students, teachers and parents. The activities will be coordinated by "Tree Walk' and School Samrakshana Samiti.
