18 Bodies Found After Bangladesh Ferry Capsizes

Bangladesh Ferry Capsizes

The ferry overturned under the weight of a collapsed river bank in Barisal, Bangladesh. Police say the ferry had also been overcrowded. A steep river bank buckled causing slab of mud to fall onto the anchored ferry. Low lying Bangladesh has an appalling record of ferry accidents with casualties sometimes running into the hundreds. Overcrowding is a common factor in many of the accidents with few improvements to safety standards despite government promises.
