Carrying A Dead Loved One

Dana Majhi Carrying His Dead Wife

A man had to carry his wife's body several miles after she died at a hospital in Orissa state, India. Dana Majhi says staff refused transport back to village. So he left on foot with his 12 year old daughter.

Dana Majhi said that "I pleaded with them, saying I am a poor person and cannot afford a vehicle to carry my wife's body. They said they cannot offer me any help."

The hospital denied the allegation. Local government ordered a probe, and the chief minister promised "stringent action" against anyone found responsible.
