An old clock that runs without a battery Vrihat Samrat Yantra, Jaipur. The biggest and only working sun clock in the world is 278 years old. It was built by the Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh. It was built as part of an observatory called Jantar Mantar.


The observatory is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The clock is made of stone and is unaffected by weather and season. Jantar Mantar also houses 19 other architectural astronomical instruments. An engineering masterpiece built by Indians.
