Crores To Shift Villages Near Tiger Reserves

Ratapani Sanctuary Tiger Reserves

Madhya Pradesh government has spent Rs 560 crore since 2000 to shift villages living within and around tiger reserves and sanctuaries. Rs 183 crore was received by Madhya Pradesh from Centre for the translocation efforts in the last 15 years. 30 villages with 10,000 families from Ratapani Sanctuary in Raisen district have to be translocated now. 1000 core is the amount needed to shift the 30 villages.

TIFF : National Tiger Conservation Authority wants state government to declare Ratapani as tiger reserve. But MP government is planning to make Ratapani as wildlife division.

It is not acceptable. Unless the villages are shifted completely, it will be advisable to consider Ratapani Sanctuary as tiger inhabited wildlife area.
