More than 5.5 million people die prematurely each year due to air pollution, according to a new research. Over half of these deaths occurring in China and India. 1.4 million people killed in India due to air pollution in 2013 and 1.6 million people in China due to the conditions caused by pollution.

Only high blood pressure, poor diet, and cigarettes kill more people every year than air pollution. 85% of the world's population lives in areas that exceed the WHO's safe level of air pollution, says a scientist. 188 the number of countries got effected during 1990 and 2013 due to air pollution.

Future - Scientists warn the early death toll will climb over the next 20 years unless the world does more to fight the problem.
